Who we are
The Abakus foundation is the family foundation of Pavel Baudiš and Eduard Kučera, lifelong friends who share the same view of the world.
More than 30 years ago, together they established the global tech antivirus company Avast, creating a tool that is now helping people all around the world to solve a complex problem in a simple way. Abakus is a natural continuation of their trust in smart and simple solutions as well as of their long-time philanthropy in the Czech Republic, where they want to keep changing things for the better.

How we work?
We support the creation of tools for change
We take a complex look at problems and challenges, trying to find solutions together with experts who provide us with important insights into their fields. We create conditions for the invention of ideas and tools that contribute to positive change. We invest our own ideas, knowledge and skills, designing new formats to develop and share.
What do tools for change mean to us?
To us, a tool for change is a concrete, realistic idea, a smart solution. An approach that is meaningful and sustainable in its form and contents. A way of addressing a problem that can be shared and adapted, therefore bringing about the greatest positive and durable change.
We are well aware that smart solutions can exist in any field and in many forms. In order to maximize impact, we currently focus on several specific topics and ideas born mostly under the umbrella of expert organizations.
Where are we headed?
After ten years of successful operation, the original Avast Foundation has reinvented itself as the Abakus family foundation. However, it has not left behind its long-term goal of looking for difficult social issues on the edge of society’s attention and address them with sustained care. We are not looking for fast solutions and are not afraid if anything goes wrong. Even a dead end can be part of an important transformation. We believe in our partners and listen to them carefully. It is only thanks to them that we can bring about meaningful change.
